Starting out as a painter and fine-art photographer, interests in travel and political issues drew Shannon into the world of documentary photography.
With a BFA in design and photography, much of her true education came after college in the form of internships and apprenticeships with famous New York photographers such as Joyce Tenneson and William Wegman. She has freelanced for the Associated Press, Sipa, and Gamma Press photography agencies, and her work has been exhibited in prestigious New York City art galleries.
Most recently her work has been featured in the bestselling book 'America 24-7,' The Baltimore Sun and in US News and World Report magazine. Shannon's discreet approach allows her to capture the beauty and emotions of a wedding in such a manner as to make the couple often completely forget her presence. The end result is true candid photography taken with the eye of an artist.
